How can I stop getting headaches from the computer screen?
February 2nd, 2010 | by The Doc |mrskevkev asked:
I work at a place where I stare at a computer screen for 8 hours (I’m actually currently doing it right now). I was wondering if there are ways to stop getting headaches from this. It drives me nuts. I go home with a headache every night.

Your eyes are probably straining, do you wear glasses? you might need them. Get an eye exam.

There are special ’safety screens’ out there to put in front of your screen to block out any glare or whatever. But I would also suggest getting your eyes checked annually.
Take breaks from the screen during the day and just close your eyes for a few minutes to let them readjust and focus on something else besides the computer.

Your neck muscles are probably tight or spasmed. Several times throughout the day, close your eyes and stretch your neck muscles by tilting your head VERY SLOWLY side to side, front to back and make slow circles in one direction several times, then reverse direction.
You might also try a professional massage / acupuncture / chiropractic to help relax the neck and upper back/shoulders muscles to relieve the blockage of blood flow or Chi.
If you try these suggestions and do not see improvement within a few days, see a Neurologist. Don’t want to scare you but you would need to at least rule out a tumor.

Spend less time in front of the computer screen. Try halving your time on computers for a start and if that fails halve it again. If you cannot reduce your 8 hours a day on computers due to work requirements try an Internet search for “computer screens” + headaches + treatment (OR prevention OR cures).
